Eyelifts (Eye Lifts, Blepharoplasty)
at Strimling Dermatology, Laser & Vein Institute of Summerlin, Las Vegas
If your eyes make you look older or more tired than you really feel, you may be a candidate for cosmetic eyelid surgery (eyelift / blepharoplasty), a commonly performed procedure to reduce, remove or re-position excess, unwanted skin and/or “bags” (fat pads) from your upper and/or lower eyelids.
People who look at you usually notice your eyes before any other facial feature. Aging, heredity, and sun damage often become manifest in your eyelid skin. These changes may consist of baggy, loose, excess skin on the upper eyelids, and / or “tired bags” or “festoons” (fat pads) on the lower eyelids. These changes may make you look tired, sad, or older than you actually feel.
Eyelid surgery can be a very satisfying facial cosmetic procedure, as these problems can be corrected with pleasing aesthetic results. Self confidence improves as your eyes look brighter, younger, and more awake. Men and women (18 years and older) with upper lid bags and/or excess skin are good candidates for these corrective procedures. Upper eyelid surgery is very effective in the elderly when vision is obstructed. Those who desire upper lid crease repositioning with or without lid debulking are also good candidates.
Upper and lower eyelid-lifts (blepharoplasties) are separate procedures, but are frequently performed simultaneously. On the upper eyelids, a small, very fine incision is made with precision
in a carefully-marked area, designed to be hidden in the new eyelid crease. Excess skin, as well as any bulging fatty tissue, are removed / tailored. Very fine sutures (stitches) are placed in the skin; these disappear or are removed in approximately 1 week. In most instances, the small scar becomes imperceptible over several months.
Lower eyelid surgery is often performed through an incision hidden inside the eyelid (Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty), so that a scar doesn’t result. On occasion, however, it may be made under the eyelashes. Excess fatty tissue that produces your “tired bags” is then repositioned,
and/or trimmed and removed. Also, if your lower eyelid sags, it can be corrected by a “tightening” procedure.
Sometimes, the “tired bags” or “festoons” are removed via an external excision through a lower eyelid crease.
Near surgery-like lower eyelid blepharoplasty results can now be achieved
without surgery, non-invasively with Exilis radio-frequency therapy.
Non-surgical eyelifts can also be performed with dermal fillers, Restylane or Juvederm alone or as an adjunct to Exilis non-surgical eyelifts.
This patient loved her results. Results may least 1-2 years or longer. Periodic touch-ups are usually necessary for maintenance.
Adjunct and /or alternative eyelid procedures include:
Botox / Dysport for (glabellar) frown lines and lateral eyelid wrinkles
and Laser Resurfacing or Chemical peels for lower / lateral eyelid wrinkles.
Also, SkinTyte maybe used around the eyelids/brows for skin tightening.
