How miraDry Works
miraDry: safe, effective, lasting.

What is the miraDry procedure?

The miraDry procedure is a safe, clinically proven, FDA-cleared solution
for significantly reducing underarm sweat.
The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and performed in our office.

Two procedures are typically recommended, 2 to 3 months apart, to maximize
the quality and duration of results. Each appointment generally lasts
about an hour. miraDry is the only FDA-cleared procedure that provides
a lasting reduction of underarm sweat in a completely non-invasive way.
Other treatment options, including antiperspirants and toxins,
aim to temporarily disable the sweat glands for varying lengths of time requiring repeated treatments to maintain effectiveness.
Other options involve surgery, which pose inherent risks.

What happens during the miraDry procedure?

The miraDry procedure is customized for each underarm, based on where
your sweat glands reside. Your underarms are numbed prior to the procedure
for your comfort. The miraDry handpiece is held up to your underarms,
and then delivers the required energy to your sweat glands.

How does miraDry work?

The miraDry system delivers precisely controlled electromagnetic energy
to the region where your underarm sweat glands reside, thereby heating
your sweat glands and eliminating them permanently.

During the miraDry procedure:

How long does the miraDry procedure take?

The miraDry procedure usually takes about an hour.
Two procedures are recommended at two to three month intervals
to maximize the quality and duration of the results.

Does the miraDry procedure hurt?

Most patients experience little to no pain because the procedure is performed
under local anesthesia. During the procedure, most people experience
some pressure and light pulling on the skin, with some sensations of warmth.
There may be an occasional brief “hot spot” that is usually well tolerated.
On average, patients describe the discomfort as about a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10
(10 being the highest).

How is miraDry different from other treatment options?

Alternative options, including antiperspirants and toxins, aim to temporarily disable the sweat glands for varying lengths of time, but require repeat treatments to maintain effectiveness.
Other options involve surgery, which pose inherent risks.
miraDry is the only treatment that provides permanent results non-invasively.

After the miraDry procedure:

What happens after the miraDry procedure?
You can expect minimal to no downtime after the procedure.
A mild over-the-counter pain medication and the use of ice packs for a few days
is recommended. You should be able to return to normal activities or work
immediately after the miraDry procedure, and you can usually resume exercise
within a few days.

What results can I expect?
Most patients report a dramatic, lasting reduction of their underarm sweat.
In a recent clinical study, the average underarm sweat reduction was 82%.
You should notice a reduction in sweat immediately after treatment.
As with any medical procedure, results may vary by person.

Are there any miraDry side effects?
Some localized soreness or swelling is normal, and typically clears
within a few weeks. Some patients have temporary, short-term altered sensation in the skin of their underarms or upper arms, which gradually disappears.

Are the miraDry results lasting?
Yes! Because the sweat glands don’t grow back,
patients experience a significant and permanent reduction of underarm sweat.

Do I need my underarm sweat glands?
Actually, no. Your body contains over four million sweat glands,
and only about 2% of them are in your underarms.
Eliminating this 2% does not affect your body’s ability to cool itself.

Will my underarm sweat glands ever grow back?
No. Underarm sweat glands don’t grow back or regenerate once they are removed.

Will miraDry cause increased sweating in other parts of my body?
No. When sweat glands are removed from your underarms, you simply stop sweating in that area. So don’t worry. Your body won’t start sweating more
in other areas to “compensate” or anything like that.

Can miraDry remove sweat glands elsewhere on my body?
No. miraDry cannot be used to treat bothersome sweating in other areas
of your body, such as hands, feet, forehead, or knees (as of yet).

Other Questions:

Is miraDry safe?
Yes! The miraDry procedure is FDA-cleared and has been performed successfully
on thousands of patients, and it’s been proven to be highly safe and effective.

Is miraDry right for me?
If embarrassing underarm sweat outbreaks, malodor, stained clothing, or
frequent antiperspirant application interfere with your daily life,
then you may be a good candidate for the miraDry procedure.
