What Are Vein Treatments?
Vein treatments are the various treatments, including injection sclerotherapy, laser, electrosurgery (including radiofrequency ablation) and/or surgery that we use to destroy, eliminate or remove unwanted or unsightly or sometimes, itchy or painful veins.
The usual types of unwanted or unsightly veins or blood vessels or other related blood vessel growths or tumors that we encounter patients seeking treatment for, include:
- Unwanted leg veins (which may be both small and large is size / diameter)
Smaller leg veins are called spider veins and large veins are referred to as varicose veins with some overlap in between. Smaller leg veins are usually treated by injection sclerotherapy, which may require up to several treatments. While large veins are usually surgically treated by intravascular laser, radiofrequency ablation, phlebectomy and/or foam sclerotherapy.
- Very small, tiny blood vessels (usually veins) called telangiectasias
Undesirable telangiectasias can occur anywhere, but usually patients seek treatment for telangiectasias of their face, which we usually treat with a series of broad band light photofacials (aka BBL photofacial or photofacial-BBL or intense pulsed light). Sometimes, electrosurgery is preferred or combined with BBL photofacial for larger face or especially nose veins.
- Small, round, often protruding vascular red angiomas are also easily destroyed with electrosurgical desiccation.
